> "They screwed up and tried to %^#&% me, but when I called them out Just wanted to give a public tip o'the hat to the company for it's great customer service. Sure, only a 5 hour drive but no red tape? No sitting in a distribution center in some ridiculously far and out-of-the-way city like St. Sent from Chicago by UPS Ground to my place, in SW Wisconsin, in about 27 hours from the order! I had no idea UPS could do that. So I get back home this afternoon to see the package from McMaster-Carr on the doorstep. I just didn't have time to sit and mess around with the hassle of trying to cancel the charge and make a new order with a different source. I decided to accept Naima's kind offer, sent a note of thanks and gave the order a go-ahead. We'll credit your credit card $4.36 to match our estimate." "I apologize that the shipping estimate was not correct. I was ready to call the bank and see if I could stop the charge when Naima's reply arrived: I assumed the order hadn't been sent yet so I sent a note asking to cancel the order because I felt the shipping was too high. Shipping charge is $9.36 for two 6" lengths of aluminum tubing, 1 1/2" OD & 1 1/4" OD. So I figured when they are ready to ship, I'll get the invoice, which I get this morning. Whenever you need a shipping estimate before you place an order, please let us know the items and the destination, and we will quote shipping charges at that time." I estimate shipping for the aluminum tubes you ordered to cost $5 to La Farge, WI. Shipping charges are determined when an order is weighed and shipped. I was concerned that no shipping charges were added to the order so I sent a friendly note via the "Contact Us" link asking about that.Ī half hour later came the reply from Naima: I'll be honest - I mainly wrote out the above for my own benefit so I can find it again in the future.I needed some aluminum tubing for a project, and after checking a few online sources, McMaster-Carr had the type and size I needed for a reasonable price so I put my order through with my credit card at noon yesterday. But the notes above suggested a 2.0" 30lb/in spring felt pretty good? Not sure what this latter approach would do to the clutch feel though, I think the clutch pedal might start getting lighter at the bottom of it's travel proportional to when it's at the top. These figures can be halved for 2.5mm wire, but you could always order and compress a longer spring into the space and make back a little bit of force that way. No idea of active coils for this one, but If 4.5 active coils, would be 74lb/in. Note that my active coil count on all these could be a bit off too.ĥ.5 active coils = 65lb/in by online calculatorĥ.0 active coils = 54lb/in by online calculatorĪliexpress 4.47US $ 23% OFF|Compressed Return Spring Wire Diameter 3.0mm Release Pressure Plate Coil Compression Spring - Springs - AliExpressĠ.118" wire diameter (3mm, though they do a 2.5mm wire as well) Using the info posted by Toymonkeyjr as a starting point I think I can fill in some of the dimensional blanks as well:Ĥ.5 active coils = 148lb/in by online calculatorĪs a rough estimate based on a video, I think spring compressed length with the pedal up is about 1.15" (0.5" compression) and 1.55" with the pedal down (0.1" compression). Once I'm finally on a GR86 order list I'll either place an order with McMaster (probably combine it with a bunch of other stuff while I'm there) or Aliexpress as a backup option. A few months back several of them weren't.īut that's great I have the info I need now. Being down in New Zealand though, I'd have to get any McMaster order sent to a freight forwarder which adds some cost - assuming the main companies are even shipping at the moment. I've ordered with them once before - if I was in the US I don't think I'd be looking any further. I can see the number of coils based on product photos, I just need those dimensions. But if I have the basic dimensions I should have a good chance of finding something suitable that's easier to get hold of. And that's even without taking issue with the US$40-60 shipping cost just for a single spring. Only thing is that in my experiences over the last year, getting things shipped out of the US has ranged from difficult and frustrating to downright impossible. Would anyone with an MTEC clutch spring and a pair of calipers be willing to measure the spring outer diameter, free length and wire diameter for me?īased on test driving the first gen 86, when I actually (hopefully) manage to purchase a GR86 I'll be looking to swap out the clutch spring. ![]() However, as the members in the US in particular are receiving their cars now (and maybe installing MTEC clutch springs) I thought it might be the right time to ask the question: Given that we don't even have pricing or a launch date in New Zealand yet, I'm probably jumping the gun on this.
